You do not require to have a grand craft store available to you. Regional shops like Wal-Mart, or K-Mart carry kits with the age limits already suggested on the boxes. Beads are a fantastic place to begin. All you need to be able to do is thread string or leather or what have you, through a bead. They come in bright colors, several sizes, and even in fun designs. If they make something they don't like, just take them off and start over. Nothing is lost but time, and you could argue that that time spent was a teaching lesson nevertheless. They learned they did not like that.
Sharing is taught, since they may have to share beads with you, siblings, or pals. They it is a great way to teach giving; as if they like it, and make a lot, then they can give their time and skill as a gift to others.
