Get a sense of what those sizes mean in real life. The advertisement you're looking at likely has the image blown up, and nothing more there for a frame of reference as to size. You might even take a ruler with you to a store that sells beads, only to get a familiarity with the topic.
Patterns. You might be looking at a wonderful tiger eye bead. And you desire a whole strand of them. Well, not every bead on the strand will look just like the picture. Patterns and pigment might change from bead to bead. Now in my opinion, that's what you need. That is what makes a piece exceptional and so valuable. But the first time you buy beads online, this might come as a shock.
